HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer

I will send a document to print and it will print out part of the document and then waste so much ink by printing blocks of colors and will not print the document I sent.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer printing incorrect colors or blocks of color instead of your document, the issue might be caused by a miscommunication between the printer and the computer, corrupted print jobs, or a problem with the printer's software or hardware. Here's how to troubleshoot this:

 

1. Cancel the Print Job

  • Cancel the current print job on your computer and printer.
  • Clear the print queue:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select See what's printing.
    • Cancel any pending print jobs.

2. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve common printer issues.

3. Check Printer Connection

  • Ensure the printer is connected properly to your computer via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Restart both the printer and your computer to refresh the connection.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall the printer driver:
    • Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, locate your printer driver, and uninstall it.
  • Download and install the latest driver for your printer from the HP Support website.
  • Re-add your printer to the computer.

5. Check the Document Format

  • Ensure the document you are printing is in a supported format (e.g., PDF, Word).
  • If using a PDF, open it in a different viewer like Adobe Reader.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.

7. Perform Printhead Maintenance

  • Open the HP Smart app or the printer's settings and locate Maintenance or Tools.
  • Run a printhead cleaning cycle.
  • Print a test page to check for improvement.

8. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update and install any available updates.

9. Try a Different Application

  • Print from another application to see if the issue is software-related.
  • Test with a simple document like a Word file or a plain text file.
