I upgraded my Verizon FIOS equipment. All devices (TVs, other laptops, and iphones) connected without a problem. The HP laptop failed to connect because the router name will not show up on the list of available connections. The adapter is working because my printer and the neighbor's devices appear on the list of available connections. I twice manually added the router to the network; however, it never appeared in the list. I removed then added the adapter; but, it did not solve the problem. My Windows 8.1 OS is up to date. I ran a total virus scan using McAfee, which resulted in no viruses found. I'm submitting this problem using my new router via a RJ-45 connection. I'm out of actions I know to take.

I contacted Verizon and verified that the router was operating at 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. Many different troubleshooting efforts were conducted with no success. After quite a while on the phone with the Verizon tech, we decided my best option was to purchase a USB Wi-Fi adapter, which I have done.
