HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw

I inherited a HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw from a former colleague who set a password he no longer remembers. I would like to add the printer to my network but need the old password to access the wireless settings. I read that an "NVRAM reset " can restore the factory setting but there is no guidance I found online to perform the reset. Can someone point me to resources on how to restore the factory settings on my new Laser Jet Pro?

Hi @Craig162,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your Restore factory settings on password-protected HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw
Restore Performing an NVRAM reset on your HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw can indeed help reset the printer to its factory settings, including removing any password protection.

Here are the steps to perform an NVRAM reset:

  • Turn off the printer: Make sure the printer is turned off before you begin the reset process.
  • Access the Service menu: Press and hold the lower left and lower right corners of the touchscreen while turning on the printer. Hold the corners until the Permanent Storage Initialization message appears, then release the corners.
  • Navigate the Service menu: Use the touchscreen to navigate the Service menu. Scroll down until you find the "NVRAM INIT" option.
  • Initiate NVRAM reset: Select the "NVRAM INIT" option using the touchscreen and confirm your selection. The printer will reset its NVRAM to factory settings, which includes clearing any passwords.
  • Restart the printer: Once the NVRAM reset is complete, restart the printer by turning it off and then on again.
  • Setup the printer: After the reset, you can set up the printer as a new device on your network. You may need to go through the initial setup process again, including connecting to your wireless network.
  • Please note that performing an NVRAM reset will erase any custom settings or configurations you have made on the printer, so be prepared to reconfigure it as necessary after the reset.
