HP OfficeJet 3831 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My OS isn’t even relevant here as I can’t get the darn thing to connect wirelessly to my computer anyway. That’s for another day when I have more time and patience. I can email documents directly to it and they used to print just fine but now the printer’s rollers won’t pick up the paper. It’s the same Office Depot paper I’ve been using for years without difficulty. The rollers spin just fine but the paper doesn’t move, then the printer tells me I’m out of paper. I’ve tried placing the paper farther down into the chute without success. Less paper, more paper, one sheet, all the sheets...no dice. It’s a big dusty paperweight and soon to be piece of trash if I cant get this sorted soon. Any advice is appreciated.

@Expertfailure12, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Let us first try performing a hard reset on the printer:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (this is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, try printing or making a copy. If the issue persists, you can follow the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this document.

I did the hard reset as you suggested but unfortunately it was not successful. I decided to replace the printer. I genuinely appreciate your assistance and expertise.
