I was 'scammed' by someone preporting to be an HP engineer. He knew my warranty was out of date and said my 'drivers' were not working properly. He appeared to be maniipulating my Printer. Fortunately the monies he took were cancelled by the Fraud team.  However I am not convinced that my printer is not  being monitored. Should I uninstall and also change all passwords ie Administrator p/w  etc.  Needless to say I still have no connection to the internet, but am weary of trying to correct it..

I'm sorry to hear that you were scammed by someone posing as an HP engineer. It's always important to be cautious when dealing with unsolicited support calls or messages, especially if they request access to your computer or personal information.

 

here are some steps you can take to secure your system and regain peace of mind:

 

  • Disconnect from the Internet: Since you're concerned about your printer being monitored, it's a good idea to keep your computer disconnected from the Internet until you're sure it's secure. This will prevent any potential unauthorized access or data transmission.
  • Uninstall Suspicious Software: If you suspect that your printer's software may have been compromised, you can uninstall it from your computer. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program, find the printer software, and uninstall it. Make sure to only uninstall the software related to the printer and not any other legitimate software.
  • Change Passwords: It's always a good practice to regularly change your passwords, especially after a security incident. Change your administrator password, as well as any other passwords you suspect may have been compromised or shared during the scam.
  • Run Antivirus and Malware Scans: Use a reliable antivirus or antimalware software to scan your computer for any malicious software that may have been installed without your knowledge. Make sure your antivirus definitions are up to date before running the scan.
