Product: HP Envy 7640
After trying everything on HP's support site, what worked for me was to select "photo" rather than "document". I guess that from now on, I will be scanning all my documents as if they were pictures....

To assist you better, I'd like to know the following:
- Which device are you using to scan?
- Which application are you using to scan?
- How is the printer connected to the device?
