Thank you for your response, @TNNTQ. I'm really glad the scanning steps worked for you. 😊

To answer your question:

Why don’t scans saved on your Mac show up on your iPhone in the HP Smart app?

When you scan something on your Mac using the HP Smart app, the scanned file is saved locally on that device, not synced across devices automatically. The HP Smart app does not currently offer cloud syncing between devices (like iCloud or Google Drive would).

To access the same scanned document on your iPhone, you have a few options:

Option 1: Save to iCloud or a Shared Cloud Folder

  1. On your Mac, after scanning, choose “Save to Files” and select iCloud Drive or a shared folder.
  2. On your iPhone, open the Files app and navigate to the same folder to view the scan.

Option 2: Use AirDrop

  1. On your Mac, open the scanned file.
  2. Click Share > AirDrop, and send it to your iPhone.
  3. Choose to save it to Files or Photos on your iPhone.

Option 3: Email or Message the Scan to Yourself

You can also email or message the scanned file to yourself and open it on your iPhone.

Tip for Future Scans:

If you want to access scans on both devices easily, consider scanning directly from your iPhone using the HP Smart app. That way, the file starts on your phone and can be saved or shared wherever you like.

I hope this helps!

@TNNTQ, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're able to print from your iPhone to your HP printer, but you're having trouble accessing scanned documents on your iPhone, they only appear on your Mac. Let's walk through how to scan directly to your iPhone and access those files.

Here's how to scan using your iPhone:

Option 1: Use the HP Smart App

The HP Smart app is the easiest way to scan and manage documents from your iPhone.

Download the HP Smart App (if you haven’t already): HP Smart

Open the HP Smart app and make sure your printer is connected.

Tap "Scan" on the home screen.

Choose "Scanner" if your printer has a scanner bed, or "Camera Scan" to use your iPhone’s camera.

After scanning, tap "Save" or "Share":

  • You can save to your iPhone (Files, Photos, or iCloud).
  • Or share via email, AirDrop, or other apps.

If you scanned from your Mac and want to access that scan on your iPhone, you’ll need to manually transfer it (e.g., via iCloud, AirDrop, or email).

Option 2: Enable Scan to Email or Cloud (Optional)

Some HP printers support scanning directly to email or cloud services like Google Drive or Dropbox. You can set this up via the HP Smart app or your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

Hey Max3Ai

I followed the instructions you sent and they worked perfectly. Thank you so much for that. My question is if I scan on Mac computer will that not configure over to my cell phone. Ex: I scanned something on my Mac and I saved it to the HP app but that  document didn’t show up when I looked on my iPhone. Do I need to do something special for that? Thank you for all your help!
