Hi @JudiT25,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet printer is constantly "running" (indicating activity) and showing "sending page" without any print jobs listed, this could be due to a stuck or phantom print job, a communication error, or a printer hardware/software issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Cancel All Print Jobs

Even if no jobs are visible:

  • On Windows:
    1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click on your printer and select See what's printing.
    3. Click Printer in the menu bar and select Cancel All Documents.
  • On macOS:
    1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select your printer, then click Open Print Queue.
    3. Cancel any jobs.

Restart the Print Spooler (Windows)

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Locate the Print Spooler service.
  3. Right-click and select Restart.

Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Clear the Print Queue Manually

Windows:

  1. Stop the Print Spooler service (as described above).
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.
  3. Restart the Print Spooler.

macOS: Reset the printing system by:

  1. Going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click anywhere in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  3. Re-add your printer.

Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Visit the HP Support Website and search for your printer model.
  2. Download and install any available firmware updates.

Factory Reset the Printer

If the issue persists, perform a factory reset:

  1. Refer to your printer’s user manual for instructions.
  2. Alternatively, access the printer’s menu settings and look for Reset or Restore Defaults.

Check Printer Settings

  • If the printer is "sending page" for jobs that do not exist:
    • Disable Print from Memory or Fax Receive and Forward (if applicable).
    • Ensure Network Printing Options do not have queued tasks.

Test the Printer

Try printing a test page to confirm functionality:

  • Use the printer's built-in options to print a configuration or alignment page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
