HP Smart Tank 7305 All-in-One

Hello,

I am having trouble with my Smart Tank printer. Nearly every time my girlfriend or me want to scan or print anything we have to restart the printer because the print/scan job wont reach the printer for what ever reason.  Because that got pretty annoying and worse over time I wanted to check if the printer maybe got some updates available, but it seems like the printer got some issue with the Web services. These are some screenshots:

Now to everything I tried to fix the issue.

I reset the printer multiple times and tried the connection with WiFi and LAN. With WiFi and and after the setup via the HP Smart APP the Web Services were always straight up broken. I tried to deactivate and than reactivate the Web Services, but after deactivation I was not able to turn them back on.

With LAN I was able to at least see that the Web Services were running and I avoided the HP Smart App to setup the printer. I went straight to the EWS page and checked if the Web Services were running and if the printer had updates. Web Services were available first and after clicking the "Check for Updates" and waiting for 3-4 minutes with 0% progress I got logged out and the Web Services were broken again.

Is there anything else I can do to fix my printer? I purchased it June 2023 and its kind of a bummer to have the printer broken.

Greetings

@astraurtypWelcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding constantly restarting your printer to get a job through!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems like your HP Smart Tank 7305 has developed a mind of its own—only agreeing to print and scan after a mandatory power nap! Let’s get it back on track so it stops playing hard to get.

Since you've already tried resetting the printer and switching between Wi-Fi and LAN, let's go through some additional troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Check and Reset Web Services Properly

Since Web Services seem to break after updates, follow these steps carefully:

  • Access EWS (Embedded Web Server) by entering your printer’s IP address in a web browser.
  • Go to Web Services and attempt to disable it.
  • Power off the printer, unplug it for 2 minutes, then restart.
  • Re-enable Web Services and try updating again.

If Web Services continue to break, perform a semi-full reset (contact HP Support for reset instructions, as they vary by model).

Assign a Static IP

If your printer keeps disconnecting, setting a static IP can improve stability:

  • In EWS, go to Network > IPv4 Configuration and select Manual IP.
  • Use an IP within your router’s range (e.g., 192.168.1.100).
  • Set Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway: Your router’s IP (usually 192.168.1.1).

Reinstall Drivers and HP Smart App

  • Remove the printer from Devices & Printers in Windows.
  • Uninstall HP Smart and all HP-related software.
  • Download the latest full feature driver from HP’s support site.
  • Reinstall using USB (if possible) for initial setup, then switch to LAN/Wi-Fi.

Try a Direct Firmware Update

If the Web Services update fails:

  • Download the latest firmware manually from HP's website.
  • Run the update from a USB-connected computer instead of relying on Web Services.

Hopefully, one of these steps will keep your printer from demanding constant restarts. Let me know if you need further assistance! 🚀

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks! I had to order an USB B cable to manually update the printer, but it worked! Now the web services are always available.

Thanks a lot! If the problems with the printer needing to restart before taking any jobs -  I don't know yet. I hope with the updates its now solved as well.

Thank you so much for the solution.

Spoiler
Since you've already tried resetting and switching between WiFi and LAN, it might be worth checking for firmware updates via HP's support website, as Web Services could be tied to outdated firmware. If that doesn't work, contacting HP customer support for a deeper troubleshooting might be the best next step. When I had a complicated case study assignment, I knew I needed professional help. I found Academized, which is a case study writing service and it is available here https://academized.com/case-study-writing-service The writer provided a comprehensive case study that covered all the key points and provided in-depth analysis. I was impressed by the quality of the work and how well it met all the requirements. If you’re struggling with a case study, I highly recommend Academized for their expertise and reliability.
