I have a small business that requires a lot of printing. Ever since I received this printer it has more problems than anything. I am receiving an error message on the HP Smart App saying tray is empty or open. Which is not allowing me to print anything I need. The tray is fully loaded with paper and is not open. I reset and power off several times and still remain the same issue. This is totally unacceptable for the cost of this printer there shouldn’t be any error or problems with me having this printer for only 4 days from purchasing.

Hi @ Mayak1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration with the issue you're experiencing with your HP Deskjet 4155e printer. Here are troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the "tray open or empty" error:
Check Paper Loading:
- Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the tray. Ensure that the paper guides are adjusted to fit the width of the paper.
- Fan the paper before loading it to prevent sheets from sticking together.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. You can do this through the HP Smart App or by visiting the official HP support website.
Inspect for Obstructions:
- Check for any foreign objects or obstructions in the paper path, especially around the paper tray and rollers.
Check Sensor:
- There might be a sensor issue. Ensure that there is nothing blocking or interfering with the paper tray sensor. You may refer to the printer's manual to locate the sensor.
Reinstall the Printer:
- Remove the printer from your computer or mobile device and then reinstall it. Sometimes, this can help resolve communication issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-

If you do a lot of printing, this is not the printer you should have purchased. Maximum monthly volume for this printer is 300 pages and recommended is 100 pages. Working in the printing industry, a lot of pages would be several thousand a month. That does not excuse that you are having issues out of the gate, but if you are printing thousands of pages a month you will quickly wear this printer out.
