I recently set up an HP Office Jet Pro 8625 via a Network Connection and was able to install the printer on my HP Pavilion Laptop through the HP Smart desktop app by manually entering the IP address (it would need auto find through search).
However, I am unsuccessful in being able to add the printer on the HP Smart mobile app. I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G, running Android 14, which apparently just updated on December 19, 2024.
I even tried setting up the printer via a WIFI connection, which again, I was able add through the desktop HP Smart app, but not able to do in the HP Smart mobile app.
Is anyone able to provide any help or assistance? I have seen other recent posts on here about similar issues. Am I to assume it has to do with the new Android update? TIA.

If the printer is connected to the router then you should be able to find from any PC or smartphone that is also connected via wifi. On my Iphone and also my samsung tablet there is a "select printer" that shows up when one touches print.
Once you press select printer one or more printers will show up.
If you do not see any then the printer is not connected to the router or you are using VPN and need to let the router pass the printer through the VPN network.
If you configure your laptop to print directly to the printer then you are bypassing the router and using Wi-Fi direct.
To use Wi-Fi direct your smart phone needs to be on the same Wi-Fi band as the printer.
Watch the reset video. After resetting, you generally have 2 hours to complete the setup. Decide if you want to connect the printer to the router or to print directly to the printer and bypass the router.
Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two bands and both bands have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.
Or simply use Wi-Fi direct.
If English is not your native language or if you wish to get additional information not covered below, then use the HP and Microsoft support assistants. The latest HPSA supports 36 languages and can be downloaded here. Microsoft's AI assistant is in the latest Windows 10 and 11 releases and there are instructions here on how to enable the AI. Microsoft's AI assistant (Copilot) has a microphone button and supports natural language processing. |
You may need to reset the printer: video here
1. From the printer control panel, touch and slide your finger across the screen, touch Setup, and then touch Network Setup. 2. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then touch Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored. 3. Touch OK. 4. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset. |
Wi-Fi setup to router: video here at 8;40 for Wi-Fi
For Wi-Fi direct setup click here.
This is useful if there is no modem or you do not want to use the modem / router.
Simple push button or WPS setup is described 56 seconds into this video. This is the push button connect where you do not need a password.
Full feature software 8620 May 2022
Printer Reference 8620e, and User Manual
Let me know if you have a flex system (Wi-Fi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is much more complicated for routers.

If you have a flex system (multiple Wi-Fi boosters) then Wi-Fi network setup is much more complicated.
The IP allocation for the printer needs to be fixed, otherwise the IP address of the printer changes depending on which booster it is connected to.
With the printer connected, request a network report and make a note of the Mac or IP address. Then log into the modem and look for that IP (or MAC) address. Find the DHCP server and make the allocation fixed so it aways gets the same IP address when it makes a connection. This could possibly be avoided by using Wi-Fi direct.
Let me know what you find out.
