Using ePrint from web.de account
08-31-2020 01:52 PM

In general ePrint works fine. I can send email to xxx@hpeprint.com from e-mail accounts accept web.de. web.de rejects the sending request with "Invalid DNS MX or A/AAAA resource record" and forwards the user to[edit] for more details. If I enter on that landing page the domain "hpeprint.com" the following information is displayed:
MX CNAME Check
WARNING: CNAME was returned for the following MX records:
emailinbound-ext-prod.inc.hp.com
The CNAME(s) that were returned are listed above. This is not ok per the RFCs and can cause problems including mail being lost!
MX A request returns CNAME
WARNING: MX records points to a CNAME. CNAMEs are not allowed in MX records, according to RFC974, RFC1034 3.6.2, RFC1912 2.4, and RFC2181 10.3. The problem MX record(s) are:
emailinbound-ext-prod.inc.hp.com points to ['eprint-emailinbound.glbinc.hp.com']
This can cause problems
Do you know anything about this problem?
Is there anything I can do from my side.
Thanks for any hints and help in advance.
Best regards,
migrator

Hi,
There is nothing much you can do from your side, it's due to incorrectly configured SPF records of the email server (Web.de), which causes HP's server to reject it.

Hi,
I'm working for WEB.DE and GMX.
Can someone from the HP team that manages the mail server please get in contact with me.
Your DNS configuration is not correct. The issue that WEB.DE and GMX customers cannot send mail to HP ePrint services it due to misconfiguration on HP side.
The relevant sections from the RFC's are: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5321#section-5.1 and https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2181#section-10.3
Best regards
Arne

That is not true. The SPF records for WEB.DE and GMX are correct and include all of the mail servers.
In fact. HP is not rejecting the mails. WEB.DE/GMX is not sending the mails, because the HP DNS configuration is not RFC compliant and therefore wrong.
