I'm trying to print from my laptop which is connected to my home network. My printer is connected to my mac mini that has the network. I see the printer and hit print then I get this note under the printer job, "Hold for Authentication".
Please help!

Hi @GK02081979,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the "Hold for Authentication" message typically appears when the printer requires authentication credentials to proceed with the print job.
Here are a few steps to help resolve this issue:
Check Printer Sharing Settings:
- Make sure your HP LaserJet P1005 is shared correctly from your Mac Mini.
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your Mac Mini.
- Select the HP LaserJet P1005, then click Options & Supplies.
- Under the Sharing tab, ensure Share this printer on the network is checked.
Clear and Re-add the Printer on Your Laptop:
- On your laptop, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the HP LaserJet P1005 and click the - button to remove it.
- Click the + button to add the printer again. Ensure you select the correct shared printer from the list.
Reset Printing System (Mac Mini):
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
- This will remove all printers and scanners, and reset the printing system.
- Re-add the HP LaserJet P1005 and share it again.
Check User Authentication Settings:
- On your laptop, try printing again. When the "Hold for Authentication" message appears, click on the print job.
- You may be prompted to enter a username and password. Use the credentials for the Mac Mini that is sharing the printer.
- Check the option to save these credentials in your keychain if prompted.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Ensure that the latest printer drivers are installed on both your Mac Mini and laptop.
- You can download the latest drivers from the HP LaserJet P1005 Printer Software and Driver Downloads.
Check for Software Updates:
- Make sure both your Mac Mini and laptop are running the latest version of macOS and all system updates are installed.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
