Printer just suddenly stopped printing correctly from my iphone, my husband’s iphone, and my ipad. It has been printing with no issues for several years; now prints a few lines and everything else is so faint it is unreadable. Printer has fresh ink; cables are fully connected, prints just fine from desktop and prints HP reports and alignments with no problem. It just will not print correctly from devices. Connection signals have not changed with devices.

Hi @Mountairy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the HP ENVY 7640 is encountering a communication issue when printing from your mobile devices. Since the desktop prints fine and the printer can print test pages, the issue likely lies in how the mobile devices are sending the print job.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps to try.
Restart Devices: Turn off your printer, iPhone, and iPad. Then, turn them back on to refresh the connections.
Reconfigure Wi-Fi: Even though the Wi-Fi connection seems fine, there may be an issue with the connection between your mobile devices and the printer. Try disconnecting the printer from the network and reconnecting it. You can do this through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
Clear Print Queue: Check your mobile devices for any stuck print jobs in the queue that may be causing the issue. Clear them and try printing again.
Update HP Smart App and Printer Firmware:
- Make sure the HP Smart app is updated on your iPhone and iPad.
- Check for firmware updates for your printer via the HP Smart app or on the printer’s menu (via Wi-Fi settings).
Use AirPrint: Ensure you're using AirPrint when printing from your mobile devices. Open the document or image you want to print, tap the share icon, and select the Print option, then choose the printer.
Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer is set to the correct mode for printing from mobile devices. Sometimes, changing settings on the printer (like quality settings or mobile-specific printing modes) may help.
Test on a Different Network: If possible, test the printing functionality on a different Wi-Fi network to rule out any interference or network issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
