I have a brand new zte Android phone. I have downloaded the hp print app plug in.I am able to connect using the WiFi app on my phone to the WiFi direct feature on the printer however, when I go to print a document, I select the printer then I am given a message that the printer is unavailable. I thought that hp printers with wifi direct features did not need to be connected to the internet and could print directly from a mobile device??? Are there any suggestions or better hp apps to use besides the hp plug in?? Thank you

Hi @atps22,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues printing from Wifi Direct. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Wi-Fi direct operates differently to than that of a local wireless network. Wi-Fi Direct provides a direct wireless connection to your HP printer that allows you to print without joining a local network or connecting to the Internet. Think of it as an extended version of the Bluetooth technology.

Let's try the steps below:

  1. On your printer, turn on Wi-Fi Direct by pressing  button.
  2. Now, on your Android mobile, go to settings - Wireless option.
  3. You will find few wireless networks available, look for the Deskjet 3730 and then try to connect to the same.
  4. If asked for a password, punch in 12345678 and press connect. That should get your printer connected to the wi-fi direct network of your printer.

Now, use the Mopria plugin to print, or download and install the HP print service plugin from the play store and then try to print.

If you are trying to set up the printer through an Android device the troubleshooting steps in the document here may help.  The document here discusses Mopria issue resolution.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Jeet, this did not work. I installed the mopria plug-in. When I went to print the document I selected, it recognized my HP 3830 printer, then the dialog box asked me to connect to the WiFi, when I attempted this, it gave me an error message stating, internal printing error, connection failed. I tried reconnecting several times with no success. So this option of the mopria plug-in doesn't work either. It seems like there is a problem with the printer, I tried rebooting the printer, and still nothing works to print. When I installed the HP plugin, it tells me again printer not available. Do you have any other Solutions?? I will look forward to your reply, thank you.

Sorry, again this is just basic information that has no effect...
Wifi direct is enabeled and on!
This is a chronic problem that I see rampant in these forums..."printer unavailable". If there is no fix for your HP print plug-in...just say so... otherwise this is just a waste of time...

Hi @atps22,

As I understand you have already tried these steps and still having the issue. I would personally suggest you need to have a one on one interaction with the HP Phone support. So that they can remotely take control of your PC and help you check the settings.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
