HP ENVY 5530
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

All,

I am trying to connect my HP Envy 5530 to my WiFi network.  Because the 2.4GHz frequency band is not working properly (local interferences), I am on 5GHz.  I understand that my printer cannot be connected to the 5GHz network.

How can I nevertheless connect my printer to my (2.4GHz) network? My printer did not come with a USB cable or an Ethernet port but I guess I should try to connect my printer to my router via a cable?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Best regards

Hi,

Could be that is the problem. You need a stable 2.4GHz network for your printer. Your printer does not have a wired LAN port therefore USB may be the only choice.

Regards.

Note: USB cables for printer become expensive now. I will travel to the US next week and looking few items on Best Buy site. I don't believe USB cables for printers cost more than I thought. I may do a Spring clean up (September) to sell my pile of USB cables.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.  Does that mean that I will only be able to print from the computer to which the printer is connected via USB? Or can I still print directly from iphone etc?

Thanks!

Hi,

The Envy 553* printers support AirPrint. Please use Apple tool to connect. Please use the following FAQ'a:

Thanks a lot for  your reply.  I read the Air Print FAQs but, as far as I understand, I need to connect my HP printer to my network wirelessly and that is exactly my problem.  The printer does not support 5GHz and, because of the interferences I'm experiencing, I cannot connect the printer (or any other device) on the 2.4 GHz band.

Can I connect my printer to the router via a cable?  If not, is there any other way I can allow devices that are on the 5GHz band to print directly?

Sorry to jump in here but can you explain:

because of the interferences I'm experiencing, I cannot connect the printer (or any other device) on the 2.4 GHz band.

What interference?   Are you in an apartment building?

Thanks for jumping in! 🙂

Nobody seems to know.  All experts from my provider came to the same conclusion: something, possibly a neighbour's device, is blocking the 2.4GHz band.  No matter how close the device and the router are, the 2.4GHz band does not allow for a connection..

HP Recommended

Try this.

Make sure printer and router are at least 6 feet apart.  In the router set a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto'.  Try channel 1 first then the rest.

Status now?
