it would be a great feature to be able to turn the printer on remotely.  I have several devices, laptops, computers throughout my house and my HP Envy 7640 is in the office and it is set to power down after a set time which I think is wise, but if I need to print something from my bedroom or kitchen, I have to walk to my office to turn the printer if it has powered down.  It seems this should be an obvious feature.  I can turn my wireless speakers on from my laptops and devices, why wouldn't this be considered a normal feature for a printer?

Printers go into sleep mode and power up when they receive a print job. No need to have any power on mode.

thank you for the quick reply.  right after I sent the email, I realized that there was an auto off/on feature.  so the printer was powering down after 15 minutes, and powering off after two hours. Disabling the power off feature solves my problme.

Thank you!

I beg to differ - for the home user this would be a great feature...

Unless the printer uses no electricity in sleep mode (which it goes into after powering up in what 2 hrs?) it would be a great help at cutting down on my energy use i.e. "Carbon Footprint".

As a home user or even a college student, where I am rarely printing, maybe twice a week, so in order for me to use less energy, I have to manually turn it off and on when I want to print.

so - how much energy is my printer using while sleeping? and how do i shorten the time before it goes back to sleep.

About 1.2 watts.   Your fridge light uses more.
