Having the same issue with my p1102w printer as this person:
updated the firmware. currently the firmware date code is: 20201023
rebooted the machine
changed DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
just need to get the printer claim code so I can set it up in the HP smart app, but everytime I try to enable webservices get the error: Connection error. Check Internet connection.

TLDR; there are two versions of the p1102w, and you have the old one that doesn't integrate with the modern ePrint service
I've just spent a day trying to figure this out for myself because I was trying to connect my p1102w to Alexa and the thing kept asking for a "Claim Code". So I set out trying to get one.
Despite all the pages that tell you that the p1102w supports ePrint and the fact that the download page offers
HP ePrint Software for Network and Wireless Connected Printers and the claim that it WORKS WITH ALEXA, there is a dirty little secret that HP are not keen to communicate.
There are two versions of the HP p1102w printer. The first version is product code CE657A which only supported wifi using 802.11b/g, and product code CE658A which has support for 802.11n.
All the documentation everywhere seems to be referring to the newer product, CE658A. The original CE657A is stuck trying to connect to the obsolete “HP ePrintCenter” and always fails with a connection error.
Even though the old version (CE657A) got a firmware update in 2020 (“Firmware Datecode” 20201023), that was only a security patch and the firmware still tries to connect to ePrintCenter, which is not the same an modern ePrinting controlled by the "HP Smart" app.
HP now pretend that the original p0112w model was called the p0112s!
If you look in the web interface you will see that the old model is a "HP LaserJet Professional P1102w" and the new model is a "P1102 w" -- note the space. You may have noticed there are two printer drivers, one with a space and one without. I guess this is why.
Anyway, I hope this helps. Sorry for the excessive content, but I hope this can help a future Googler with the same problem. It drove me nuts!
