Hello, @phill1951 – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel!

I understand that you are getting a bad print quality while using the Envy 5540 printer to print photos. Is the issue specific to printing photos? Make a color copy using a regular paper on your printer and check.

Place a color document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the color copy on the regular paper also gives you the same result, go to http://hp.care/2evOrPr and follow from step 7 – step 12.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Cheers 🙂
