HP Officejet 8040 e-all-in-one
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

My HP Officejet 8040 e-all-in-one series printer is not compatible with 5 GHz networks.  Not what do I do?

HP says they do not have printers that work with 5 GHz networks since they only have 2.4 Ghz.

Hi,

Indeed most HP printers support 2.4GHz only, only verey limited models of black and white laser printers currently supports 5.0GHz.

I suggest contacting your router service provider and enable 2.4GHz too, assuming your router supports dual band and configured for both 5 and 2.4GHz bands both devices should communicate once connected to the same network.

Hope that helps,

Shlomi

That did the trick.  Thank you!

Is it *really* HP's position that users around the community need to disable one band of their wireless network or buy another printer>>>>?????

Because that seems nonsense to me......

On review, maybe that's not what you said (I think)......you're saying that *at least* one 2.4 gHz network needs to be available, right?

No, you do not need to disable the other band,  Most 5Ghz routers also provide a 2.4Ghz band.  Both can be active.  The printer will need access to a 2.4Ghz band, your other devices could access the router through the 5Ghz band if desired.

Thanks Bob - I realised I'd probably read it wrong . I'd have deleted the comment but didn't see an option....

As you may have guessed, I'm having issues setting the printer up....

I've connected it to the network at 192.168.1.129 and the printer is showing as online on the wireless network at that address.

However, network clients (phones etc) can only see the printer if they disconnect from the main wireless router, and connect to the Direct-28-HP Envy 4520 Series SSID.

Connect to the Direct SSID, printer is visible at .1.129. Connect to main SSID, the printer doesn't show up on the network.

scratching my head a bit....

I would suggest you start a new thread.  Post the details including the type of devices (model and operating system) you are trying to connect.
