I have the exact same issue. The download suggested by HP shows me my printer but it is grayed out. The current firmware I have installed is CIP1FN1126AR. The IP and DNS are configured manually.

Is there a possibility that the printer is trying to connect via an SSL connection and the printer no longer has a supported SSL version to communicate with the HP server?

Does anyone know what the hostname is that the printer is trying to connect to?

Thank you for joining the HP Community

Could you please help me with the exact model name or the product number of the printer?

Meanwhile, refer to this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03721293 for HP ePrint.

Keep me posted.

Have a great day!

Cheers:)

The referred document doesn't help. I click on "Web Services Settings" and see

  • Printer Email Address

ePrint On

  • Apps: On

If I click on "Printer Email Address" it says

  • The printer was unable to connect to the server
  • You can connect the printer to the internet through a proxy server, to do so, touch Enter Proxy and enter details when prompted.

There is no proxy on my network. It would be helpful to know what IP or hostname the printer is trying to connect to so that I could verify connectivity. Because this is an old printer, I suspect it's either trying to connect to a server that doesn't exist (pre-HP business split perhaps) or maybe it's trying to connect with an obsolete SSL protocol version.

Could you please help me with the DNS which you are using?

Make sure you are using Google DNS and check if it works.

  • Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers.

Yes, my DHCP server is handing out 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for DNS. Everything on my home network is able to ping these IPs. The printer works fine on the LAN. Both Mac and PC computers can print to it. I can also print to it directly from my Android phone. The Network Status printout confirms DNS is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. This is a wired connection.

The EWS page says that Web Services are registered.

I think my next step will be to run Wireshark on my PC and get a network trace to see what the printer is doing. I might also reset it to factory defaults again and start over.
