Your HP printer no longer lets us choose a paper size for mobile printing from our iPads. It is stuck on 4" x 6" size and there are no options to change it any more. It used to print any size we wanted until about 3 weeks ago. It sounds to me like there is some sort of bug between HP printers and iOS now judging from other online comments. I have tried everything.

Hi @Rockymj,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet 3836 All-In-One Printer and mobile printing from iPads, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
-
Update Firmware/Software:
- Ensure that both your printer's firmware and the HP Smart app on your iPad are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to address bugs and improve compatibility.
-
Restart Devices:
- Restart both your printer and your iPad. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues.
-
Reinstall HP Smart App:
- Delete the HP Smart app from your iPad and reinstall it from the App Store. This can help if there's a glitch in the app.
-
Check Printer Settings:
- On your printer, make sure the paper size settings are correct. You might find this in the printer's menu or settings section.
-
Reset Printer Preferences:
- In the HP Smart app, navigate to the printer settings, and check if there's an option to reset printer preferences. This can sometimes clear any misconfigurations.
-
Check iOS Printing Settings:
- On your iPad, go to Settings > Printers & Scanners. Select your HP printer and check if there are any settings related to paper size. Make sure it's set to "Default" or the desired paper size.
-
Check App-Specific Settings:
- If you're printing from a specific app, check within that app for any paper size settings. Some apps may override the default settings.
-
Check iOS Updates:
- Ensure that your iPad is running the latest version of iOS. Sometimes, compatibility issues can be resolved with an iOS update.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
