HP OfficeJet 3836 All-in-One Printer
iOS

Your HP printer no longer lets us choose a paper size for mobile printing from our iPads.  It is stuck on 4" x 6" size and there are no options to change it any more.  It used to print any size we wanted until about 3 weeks ago.  It sounds to me like there is some sort of bug between HP printers and iOS now judging from other online comments.  I have tried everything.

Hi @Rockymj,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet 3836 All-In-One Printer and mobile printing from iPads, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  1. Update Firmware/Software:

    • Ensure that both your printer's firmware and the HP Smart app on your iPad are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to address bugs and improve compatibility.
  2. Restart Devices:

    • Restart both your printer and your iPad. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues.
  3. Reinstall HP Smart App:

    • Delete the HP Smart app from your iPad and reinstall it from the App Store. This can help if there's a glitch in the app.
  4. Check Printer Settings:

    • On your printer, make sure the paper size settings are correct. You might find this in the printer's menu or settings section.
  5. Reset Printer Preferences:

    • In the HP Smart app, navigate to the printer settings, and check if there's an option to reset printer preferences. This can sometimes clear any misconfigurations.
  6. Check iOS Printing Settings:

    • On your iPad, go to Settings > Printers & Scanners. Select your HP printer and check if there are any settings related to paper size. Make sure it's set to "Default" or the desired paper size.
  7. Check App-Specific Settings:

    • If you're printing from a specific app, check within that app for any paper size settings. Some apps may override the default settings.
  8. Check iOS Updates:

    • Ensure that your iPad is running the latest version of iOS. Sometimes, compatibility issues can be resolved with an iOS update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
