Hi @Lyve1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
This could be a compatibility issue.
If your HP LaserJet MFP M283cdw printer is recognized by the HP Smart app on your iPhone 15 but fails to print PDFs and images, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
Ensure Both Devices are on the Same Network:
- Verify that both your iPhone and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Restart Your Devices:
- Restart both your iPhone and the printer. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
HP Smart App Troubleshooting
Update the HP Smart App:
- Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your iPhone. Go to the App Store and check for updates.
Re-add the Printer in HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app, tap on your printer, and select "Forget this printer."
- Re-add the printer by following the on-screen instructions.
Printer and iPhone Settings
Check Printer Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the printer's control panel or HP's website.
Check iPhone Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network on your iPhone and make sure the HP Smart app has permission to access your local network.
Printing from HP Smart App
Try Printing Different Files:
- Try printing different types of files (PDFs, images, documents) from the HP Smart app to see if the issue is specific to certain file types.
Convert PDFs and Images:
- Try converting PDFs to a different format or resaving images in a different resolution or format before printing.
Note, sharing the remaining steps in next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Lyve1,
Here are the remaining steps.
Network and Connectivity
Check Network Connectivity:
- Ensure that your network connection is stable. Sometimes, weak Wi-Fi signals can cause printing issues.
- Move your printer and iPhone closer to the router to ensure a strong signal.
Disable VPN:
- If you are using a VPN on your iPhone, try disabling it as it can sometimes interfere with network printing.
Advanced Troubleshooting
Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- Reset the network settings on your printer to factory defaults and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network. You can usually do this from the printer's control panel under network settings.
Print Using AirPrint:
- Instead of using the HP Smart app, try printing directly using AirPrint.
- Open the file you want to print, tap the share icon, and select "Print." Choose your printer from the list and try printing.
Additional Support
- Contact HP Support:
- If the issue persists, there may be a more complex problem with your printer or network configuration. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
