HP Smart Tank 7005
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Yesterday I tried (and failed) to help a client print directly from their Samsung smartphone to their new HP Smart Tank 7005 printer via Bluetooth - "Oh yes, you can print to it via Bluetooth", the salesperson told him, and this would be very useful for him as there is no wifi router (yet!) at the printer's location.  It was easy enough to establish a Bluetooth connection between the printer and the phone, but this did not make the printer available to the phone's apps. So I downloaded the HP Smart app to the phone and ran it, but it did not find the Bluetooth connected printer. So my questions to y'all are: 1.  Is this possible?  2.  If so, how can it be achieved?

Thanks in advance!

(If it can't be achieved, I'll recommend installation of a cheap router to interconnect the devices on-site).

Hi @paul-56,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP Smart Tank 7005 does not support Bluetooth printing, which is why the Bluetooth connection you established didn't make the printer available to the phone's apps.

Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Is it possible to print to the HP Smart Tank 7005 via Bluetooth?

No, the HP Smart Tank 7005 does not support printing via Bluetooth. Although the Bluetooth connection can be established, this is primarily used for setup purposes rather than direct printing.

2. How can printing from an Android smartphone to the HP Smart Tank 7005 be achieved?

For mobile printing from an Android smartphone, the HP Smart Tank 7005 primarily relies on WiFi for wireless printing. Without a WiFi router on-site, the following options are possible:

  • WiFi Direct: The printer supports WiFi Direct, which allows a smartphone to connect to the printer directly, bypassing the need for a router. To enable this:
    1. On the printer control panel, navigate to the WiFi Direct settings.
    2. Turn on WiFi Direct.
    3. On the smartphone, go to WiFi settings and connect to the printer's WiFi Direct network.
    4. Open the HP Smart app or any print option from the phone to print documents.
  • Temporary Router: If WiFi Direct is not ideal, a cheap router can be used to create a local network between the smartphone and the printer, which may be easier for regular use.

These are the best alternatives since Bluetooth printing is not supported by this model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
