just bought my HP Envy 6455e All-In-One printer recently after my previous HP printer broke. Apparently, this printer automatically goes into sleep mode after a couple hours and requires me to manually turn it on every time I want to print something, since I generally only print a couple times a day. Is there any way to turn this setting off on the printer? It makes zero sense to have to manually turn on a brand new printer to print something in 2021. My previous HP printer that I bought in 2014 didn't require this. If there's no way to turn this setting off, is there any way to have it turn itself on when I want to print something? If there is no fix for this issue, I'll be forced to return this printer.

Hi @jackiea64,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer that does not come out of sleep.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the page 21 for sleep settings from this link to further troubleshoot.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Irwin6. Thank you for your reply, but the thing I really wanted to do was to turn off the sleep mode all together.  Right at the moment I am stuck sitting most of the time as I recently fell on my back off of a step laddder and damaged my  tailbone so it would be hard, well impossible for me to get to the wall. Plug right now.  So is there anyway at all to completely turn off the sleep mode because I reallly dont want it anyway…thank you so very much for all of your help!  Jackie

Hi @jackiea64,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

Unfortunately, Sleep mode cannot be disabled or turned off. Although on some printers you can change the inactive time before the printer enters sleep mode. To find out if you can change the sleep mode time, see your printer's user guide.

Refer to the page 21 again to change the sleep settings from this link and let me know if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thank you Irwin6 for the last suggestion…I have already found the section in the printer app where it says “turn off sleep mode”. I was sooo excited when I saw that because that is probably the dumbest thing on a printer I have ever seen and this one said I cant take it off and I cant change the fixed 2 hours before it goes into sleep mode….had i know that was part of the HP Envy 6455e all in one printer, believe me I would NEVER have bought it.  Ive been using HP computers since they used floppy’s and the HP printers too.  It did change to a Mac and ipads and iPhones, but never stopped using HP printers because they were so easy to set up and so very easy to use…this one is a serious joke!  Of all times to get this joke of a printer it has to be right before falling off of the step ladder and not being able to move except with a walker from my bed to a chair  and now I cant even take this crap back to Best Buy in gastonia, nc.  That employee told me she knew about printers…if so, she didnt bother telling me about this stupid sleep mode.  Im sorry, not your fault Irwin, you were very helpful and very kind.   Thank you again for trying and for being such a helpful person!

Irwin….no, I cant do that because that’s not the issue….I want to get the sleep mode OFF of this stupid printer because its the dumbest program I have ever seen…if I could walk right now, but I havent been able to do that for almost a month, I would take this dumb printer back to Best Buy right this very minute.  HP wont let me turn it off and not just that I have to shut my VPN off every time I actually am able to print something…its a piece of crap and after all of these years of owning an HP, I will NEVER own one again.  Just wish I could have gotten my money back for this one!  You cant do anything for me, Im sorry I bothered you, thanks anyway!
