Hi @Ruddy17,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "server connection error" when trying to scan to email on your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer can be caused by incorrect settings, network issues, or email server configuration problems. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Verify Network Connection
- Ensure your printer is connected to the internet via WiFi.
- Confirm that the printer and the device you're using are on the same network.
Update Firmware
- Check if your printer's firmware is up to date.
- Go to the HP website, download the latest firmware for the ENVY 5530, and follow the instructions to update.
Check Web Services (HP ePrint)
- Enable Web Services on the printer:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Web Services Setup > Enable Web Services.
- If Web Services is already enabled, try disabling and then re-enabling it.
- If you get an error during Web Services activation, there may be a problem with the HP ePrint server or your internet connection.
Set Up Scan to Email via HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a browser:
- Print the Network Configuration Page from your printer (go to the printer’s menu, find Network Configuration or Network Settings).
- In the report, look for the IP Address of the printer.
- Type this IP address into your web browser to access the EWS.
- Once in the EWS, go to the Scan to Email setup:
- Set up your email account by following the on-screen instructions.
- Ensure that your email settings (SMTP server, port, authentication) are correct.
Verify SMTP Server Settings
- Ensure that the SMTP (email server) settings used by your printer are correct. You'll need:
- SMTP Server Address (e.g., smtp.gmail.com for Gmail).
- Port Number (commonly 587 for TLS/STARTTLS).
- Authentication: Ensure that email authentication is enabled with a valid email address and password.
- If you're using Gmail or similar services, ensure you allow "less secure apps" or set up an app-specific password.
Test Email Settings
- Once you've configured the SMTP server in the EWS, try sending a test email from the printer.
- If the test fails, recheck the settings for any typos or incorrect configurations.

Firewall/Router Settings
- Ensure that your firewall or router isn't blocking outbound SMTP connections. Some routers or firewalls may block certain ports (such as 587 or 465).
Reset Printer Network Settings
- If all else fails, try resetting the printer’s network settings and reconnect it to your WiFi:
- On the printer, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
- Reconnect the printer to the WiFi and try the setup again.
After following these steps, your printer should be able to scan to email successfully.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
