HP Envy 4512
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

running windows 10 from Hp Pavilion(HP 15-CC060WM) with an HP ENVY 4512 printer.

When I'm directly wired to the printer via USB all is well, I can print in color, or I can go to print properties and select to print in only black and white. If I use the same printer via network, it prints only in black and white, and in print properties I don't even have the option for color or black and white.

Found a little further information: From WordPad I created a small rtf file with a few words in color, I printed it to a pdf, which I could view via Acrobat Reader DC and it's in color, I sent from Acrobat to network printer and it's black and white. But, I used HP's eprint function to send the same pdf via email to the printer and it prints in color.

The whole problem seems to be an inability on Windows 10 to detect that this network printer can support color. I don't know if this is a problem with Windows 10, or with the HP drivers that support the Networked HP ENVY 4512(or something else entirely that I'm missing)

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.

I reviewed the case regarding issues with the printer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 😉

However I would suggest you to please try these steps:

I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Once done, follow this link and install the full feature driver software. 🙂

Thanks for the help, I now have the choice of color or grey Scale in printer properties, and my test of color printing worked fine.

Just wanted to point out a couple of things I ran into following the instructions, in case someone else trys.

I went to Programs and Features on the old control panel and there were three things that appeared to be HP printer related.

  • Hp Envy 4510 series Basic Device Software
  • Hp Envy 4510 series Help
  • HP ePrint SW

I uninstalled all three(little unsure on HP eprint SW).

After that Devices and Printers didn't show the printer

while running printui and hitting the Drivers tab, the first entry was HP Pcl3 A - Size Printer class driver(x64), I selected it and got two options, "remove just driver" or "remove driver and driver package". Not sure here, but I chose remove driver and driver package. I removed the driver but said it failed to remove PROHPCL1.INF, access denied.

After that I followed the link, downloaded and ran EN4510_full_webpack_1122.exe. Unselected the loading of a couple of extra things(like Hp photo creations). Ran into a small snag during Network Device Installation, where it sat for a very long time, then said "Unable to install over Network", it allowed a retry option, and all was good after that.

Again,

Thanks

Hi,

Firstly, will this work for the Envy 4524? I have the same problem.

Secondly, why on earth should this rigmarole be necessary? All I did was change from an old HP PC with Windows 7 to a newer HP 17-ak014na  with Windows 10? Re-installed programs and copied data a month ago. This is the first problem.

I look forward to your replies.

Hi again,

Just checked my current driver  and its 40.11.122.1796. I therefore assume your routine won't work as that is the driver you suggest we download.

Help!

Dave
