HP OfficeJet PRO 8710
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

i am trying to print from my Toshiba (work laptop) to my new HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 four-in-one printer (wireless).  the laptop and the printer are on the same network through my router.  as info, the first time i attempted to print a few months ago, i was successful with these two pieces of hardware, but something's changed... my printer works as intended printing remotely with my wife's laptop and from my phone.  i assume there is a setting on my work laptop that's changed, but dont know how to resolve.

my printer is not available in the list of installed/available priners when i attempt to print.  so i go throught the printer install steps and the laptop sees my printer and prompts me to install, but when i try i get the following message "unable to install printer, the handle is invalid".

sure appreciate any insight.

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are unable to install the printer on your computer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • When did this issue start?
  • Did you do any hardware or software changes before this occurred?

Meanwhile:

Manually connect the printer to your network.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Temporarily disable firewall software on the computer.

Uninstall the HP driver and software.

Reinstall the HP software.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
