Setting up new HP 5100 series printer by mobile phone.  Wifi is on the printer and phone doesn't complete set up. It stays in 'circle swirling' mode on the phone. The display is flashing the ink levels. Is it time to put in the ink even though it isn't showing printer set up as completed?

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with setting up your HP Smart Tank 5100 series printer using your mobile phone. Here are some steps you can follow to try to resolve the problem:

Insert the Ink Cartridges: If your printer is flashing the ink levels, it might be indicating that it needs the ink cartridges installed. Even though the setup via the phone hasn’t completed, installing the ink might be a necessary step to continue. Be sure to follow the instructions for installing the ink cartridges as provided in your printer's manual.

Restart the Setup Process:

  • Restart your printer: Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve any temporary glitches affecting the setup process.
  • Restart your phone: Similarly, restarting your phone can clear out any temporary software issues that might be affecting the setup application.

Check Your Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Ensure that both your phone and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is essential for the setup process.
  • Try moving the printer closer to your Wi-Fi router to ensure a strong signal.

Update the Printer Software:

  • If possible, check if there's an update available for your printer’s firmware. Sometimes, manufacturers release updates to fix known bugs or improve connectivity issues.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Make sure you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app. Update the app if necessary through your phone's app store.
  • Try to initiate the setup process again through the HP Smart app. Follow the instructions carefully to see if the setup completes successfully this time.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure there are no devices that could be causing interference with your Wi-Fi signal near the printer or router, such as microwaves or cordless phones.
