Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

May I know how it the printer connected? Is it through Wireless, Wired, WiFi-Direct or USB?

Can you make Photocopies?

To assist you better, please provide me with the Printer Model or Product Number

You can refer to this Link: hp.care/2bygf7l for help in locating the Product Number.

If possible send me a Screenshot or picture of the Error Message

Thank you 😊

the printer is connected through wi-fi. I can make photo copies. The Printer is an HP ENVY 5640.  I've tried doing the reset that is shown on the printer but that doesnt work.  I think it doesn't work because the printer update is locked. the Home Page with the 8 squares for Energy Save Mode, Web Services, Printer Update, Network Summary, etc.  On six of these squares is a Locked logo shown. And a msg. that reads: This feature has been locked by the administrator.   When clicking on any of those squares, a Log in menue comes up.  It shows "Windows Security, HP Smart and The Server (number) is asking for your user name & password. The server reports tht it is from admin."  I am Administrator, but I have no idea what the User Name and Passord is is asking for??  I have tried admin as the user name but the password I use for hp doesn't work.

The message that comes when I try to print says "hold for authentication".  First it asks for my name and password, which never happened before. I am stumped.
