Hi all.  I am the one who started this thread.  HP phone/chat support was never able to fix my problem.  They finally, after many many hours of my life on chat/phone, had me send it to them under 1year warranty support.  They reinstalled all the windows software from scratch and updated BIOS as they said bios was corrupt.   It seems to work but I have only had it for 2 weeks now.  However, I should note that what they did when it was sent in seems to be exactly what I did at home (reinstall the whole windows from scratch and updated BIOS several times per their directions or HP did it via remote access) but the problem resurfaced after a few days when I did it myself.  So, I have no idea why it works when HP did it when they physically had the machine.

That said, I only have 2 months of warranty left and if it happens again, I can't go through the pain and time of trying to fix it again only to not succeed.  So, I am starting to save now for if (or when) audio/video stops working again and I can tell you this:  it will NOT be another HP machine.

Good luck!

I suddenly seem to have developed the same issue of no audio.

Product number: X7H11EA#ABU

OS: Win 10

Sound, Video and Game Controllers: AMD High Definition Audio Device, Realtek High Definition Audio

No audio from the B&O speakers, the headphone socket at the side of the laptop or out of the HDMI output to my external speakers on the Dell SE177FP (AMD High Definition Audio Device) setting.

Drivers have been updated.

This solution has just worked for me.

Run 'services.msc' from the Start button.

Select 'Windows Audio' in the right-hand pane.

Right-click, then stop the service.

Right-click, then start the service.

Worked perfectly for me!! thank you!!!

This is not the solution because in companies you can not expect that everybody has adminstrator permissions to open the services!

@HP: Please deliver a real fix for this issue!

Thanks for your input. Obviously no solution will work for everybody but good luck finding the solution specific to your issue.

Thanks for your input. Obviously no solution will work for everybody but good luck finding the solution specific to your issue. If somebody works for a company which won't allow them certain permissions, they possibly don't have permissions to run a number of solutions so should refer it to the IT dept responsible for administration permissions.

I have had the exact same problem with my HP ENVY that I purchased at Best Buy in August of 2016.  This computer has been to HP under manufacturer warranty and the defective battery has been replaced as well as the fan.  I have had remote sessions with HP and the Geek Squad multiple times.  The computer has been worked on by the Geek Squad 4 times now.  Yesterday, Geek Squad sent an agent to my home to make sure nothing was going on with my wireless network (although all of our other devices are working on our network just fine.)  The Geek Squad agent decided there is a conflict with the Bang and Olufson sound drivers and the windows drivers on the laptop.  So today they wiped my computer again and installed a version of Windows that does not have all of the HP manufacturer extras.  They are pretty confident this will solve the problem.  However, if there is another Windows update, I might have the same issue again...cannot watch videos on YouTube or anywhere else or if videos will finally play, they have no sound.  Or the whole computer freezes up and the fan just revs and revs.

I could not use Itunes, YouTube, and many other things on my computer.  The system resources were being drained by things that required sound due to the conflicting sound drivers.

HP knew they had tons of defective batteries and did not notify those of us who purchased and registered our computers with them last year so maybe they are aware of this conflict that has rendered some of these HP ENVY models sold last year but haven't notified us.  I am so irritated with this $1000 HP paperweight.

Same thing happening here with same exact HP Envy purchased at Best Buy August of 2016.

Tons of visits to Geek Squad visits including telephone remote sessions.  Also had computer worked on by HP.

Had Geek Squad out to my home to double check my network last night and everything fine there.  They are now wiping and restoring my computer for a second time with a special version of Windows 10 that doesn't have all of the HP extra software I do not need.

They think the Bang and Olufsen sound drivers are in conflict with the other Windows sound drivers.  I have spent hours and hours and hours dealing with this issue.  I will be printing this forum info so I can show it to Best Buy.  They need to know this is a common problem with an HP product sold at their stores.
