Yea, after 2 reformats back to factory status (one by me and one by HP themselves by shipping it to them), it would work for a few days and then back to audio not working, then video not working, then things just freezing up.  I think it has something to do with the Conexant audio drivers (there is a different brand on the new ones), but HP said it was a corrupted BIOS when they reformatted it about 20 days after I did.  I can't live my life like this and need it for work, so I walked into Best Buy with it and sold it back to them through their Buy Back program.  I got $140 for something I paid $800+ less than a year earlier ---- it was still under warranty but the warranty was useless essentially and I couldn't spend any more of my life trying to fix it.  Would be great if HP reimbursed me for that!!!  But I feel sorry for the next person who gets it.   I couldn't sell it on EBay as it has/will have issues and come back to me --- not HP!

I then bought a Dell 7000 Gaming series laptop.  It is great.  BTW, my employer switched to HP from Dell and they started having trouble with fans going out on their machines and HP won't admit to the problem.  So my employer went back to Dell.  I see a trend here.  I will not buy another HP!

OMG I am so sorry for what you have gone through.  There are so many threads with different titles on this HP Forum about these HP ENVY 360s from last year.  It is absolutely shocking.  Not only is this frustrating but it is disruptive and prohibitive to people who need their computers for school and or work.  Some of us do not have tons of money to  throw out the window because HP won't step up and recall these expensive paperweights.

I just received my HP ENVY 360 back from Geek Squad today with a plain Windows 10 version without all of the HP bloatware and will give it a chance.  By now, HP is well aware of this widespread problem and perhaps the only thing that will make anything happen is a class action lawsuit.

And yes I think the Conexant audio drivers are constantly battling with the other audio drivers and their constant battle occupies all of the system resources which renders the computer unusable because it freezes up.

So glad you were able to move on and put this whole HP nightmare behind you.  At this point I am on my second wipe and restore.  HP has performed a BIOS update via remote session.  I sent the laptop back to HP and they replaced a defective battery and fan.  And the Geek Squad has checked it in at least 6 times this year.  They have made a home visit as well as a couple of telephone remote sessions.

And I agree with you in regards to wishing we could get our money back for a computer that pretty much wouldn't work out of the box.   Glad you have your Dell and your employer is going to Dell as well.   Thank you so much for sharing your story.  Sometimes it helps just to know we are not alone in our fight.

The fix for the malfunctioning audio is corrected by the advice regarding typing in services.msc in the start window and scrolling to Windows Audio and right clicking to stop then restart the service. However, it didn't repair it until I restarted the entire computer. But for now, this has fixed what sounds like a really common problem with this particular HP computer model.
