I have a HP Envy Notebook -17t-n100 CTO and about a week ago lost my sound. There is a red x through the sound icon and states I have no audio output deivce installed. I have downloaded the new software and still no sound. I am running windows 10 Home 64- bit.

I have exactly the same problem that started on 25 Aug following a number of support updates through the HP support assistant. However, my computer is an Elitebook x360 1030 G2. I am running Windows 10 Professional. I tried the driver install that you recommended but it had no effect - although it appeared to install nothing happened.
Any assistance would be appreciated because all I have received from Tech Support (after over an hour on the phone) was a link to a software update that didn't work.

I have the same problem....no audio.
I have used the assistant twice to fix it. It seems to work just fine. Then the next time I restart I lose audio again.
Fixing this over and over is very frustrating. It is a new laptop....if I don't get some help soon I will be taking it back.

I had a phone session with technical support yesterday and she reinstalled the audio driver and it worked! ...For a little while...
I walked back into my office yesterday afternoon to a high-pitched, ear-piercing squeal coming from my laptop. I restarted to no avail then did a cold shutdown. This got rid of the squeal but now my little red X is back. I hope to have a follow up call with HP today and will keep you posted on my progress.

There is obviously a glitch that we all have that is causing it to not work.
