Yes the motherboard would have a small CR2025 battery or similar. This is used to provide power to the motherboard when the pc is off/batter removed. I'm not convinced it's this causing the beeping though, as that is usually accompanied with other issues and not just beeping. Not keeping system clock time being the most obvious.

I managed to get a better recording of the beep, well louder anyway. Ironically whilst on chat to support.... It seems the beep ranges from a quick beep to something more similar to screech.

If mine was out of warranty I would probably open it up and see if there was a jumper to disable the internal motherboard speaker, or even remove it completely.

As it's under warranty though, it's HP's problem and not mine.

Nath that is the EXACT peebing noice I had.  Thnaks for linking it. Maybe now someone from HP will actually listen and try to resolve this. I really liked my laptop but returned it since any level of HP support were clueless. Actually they did more harm than good in the first level of support by installing an old bios. Did all the checks, took days not hours as I did it 3x.

Exactly! I really like the laptop too, but sat in front of it for a few hours in a quiet room and I've had to restrain myself from throwing it across the room....

The sound file you uploaded is an exact match to what I hear regularly.  Great job for capturing it.

No problem.

I have burned the files onto a Dvd ready to put into the box with the laptop when they collect it on the 23rd. This way there can't be any excuses of not being able to hear the beep.

Agreed, I too got tired of hearing this random noice knowing something from inside the machine was bad or going bad. Why HP has not admitted this yet makes we wonder.  What happened to customer service?

What's worrying is that this doesn't seem restrained to just one model. So it would seem the only safe option would be to push for a refund. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens once it's been repaired, but I don't hold out to much hope at this stage.

I'm sure the fix is probably pretty simple. A little bit of tweaking in the bios and sorted.

I personally would appreciate it if you could let us know how you get on and keep us updated with any feedback you receive.

Yes i will keep you updated, definitely.

I already have a feeling this isn't going to go smoothly though. I had a confirmation email yesterday with the wrong pickup address and date (tomorrow at my mother's house) so I contacted support today to amend it, I was told that it would be changed but haven't received any confirmation of the amendments. I have a feeling the courier driver is still going to arrive tomorrow.
