I've got the same issue since at least one year without any solution or reply from HP team. They always tell to reinstall all possible controllers and/or change audio configuration but nothing of this works. I've even reset my computer to default settings (HP Spectre x2 Detachable 12-c0XX). Why haven't HP launched a driver patch like this yet:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/10862158/model/11991509/docum....

Please give a similarly effective solution.

Those are some of the discussions I've checked without a solution. It seems to be a wide problem on hp laptops and an astonishing indifference to customer satisfaction.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hello KrazyToad,

Thank you for replying. Indeed that is the problem. I do have all latest update but there is a massive bug in sound on several of your products and HP is not taking any update to fix it as it eas made before for the very same issue in some models:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/10862158/model/11991509/docum...

I have this issue since my laptop had bearly one year of use and since then you are not giving any solution, that is frustrating and unbelievable how you just keep ignoring costumers with an as recurrent bug like this.

I do expect you can provide a solution soon.

@KrazyToad does the proposed solution apply to my Omen 17 - 2019 also?

I checked through "HP Support Assistant" also and I have latest drivers and audio diagnostics doesn't find & fix any problem.

Somehow @DavidQF 's reply got disconnected from my original post related to Omen 17-2019.

I suggest you perform a Reset and let me know if the issue persists

@KrazyToad I performed reset, as per your advice. All drivers are up to date and yet the problem is still there.

After the reset, I set the volume slider to around 90% and started playing audio. Sound was loud in the begining.

But after playing audio continously for about 10-15 min, actual sound level dropped to almost unaudible level.

It becomes loud again randomly and stays loud for few minutes and then drops agian. All this keeps happening without changing any sound setting at all.

I have played same youtube video many times on other computers also, so I am sure that changing audio levels is  not because of the video.

@KrazyToad I've performed total reset twice but this problem persists. I will share some findings that might help look for a solution.

In my PC thee is two built-in B&O stereo speakers. Sounds work normally when the volume level is under 30. When I rise volume even just to 32 right speaker volume will just drop until it is almost inaudible while left speaker works normally. If you keep just listening to whatever media content, the volume will suddenly come back to right speaker for 1 or 2 seconds just to drop again to almost no sound. It will repeat randomly.

I've noticed the problem is specifically related to Windows Audio Service and the audiodg.exe task. If you finish the task (or restart the Windows Audio Service) the audio will go back to normal for a few seconds. If you finish the task (or restart the service) and drop volume level under 30 while audio restart, the speakers will work normally unless you rise again the volume level.

I hope this information is somehow useful.

Since the issue persists after the Reset, I suggest you perform a System Recovery using the Recovery Media

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file inorder to install Windows operating system. Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06162205 to Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04758961#AbT3 to perform a System Recovery (Windows 10)

Thank you

@KrazyToad, I performed system recovery and the audio device is working fine so far (3-4 hrs of audio playback). Currently audio drivers are old (6.0.8809.1). Windows version is 1909 (Build 18363.449).

Windows update is reporting a long list of pending updates including new dirvers and 2020-04 Cummulative update for Windows 10. I shall install all available updates in "Windows Updates" and come back to you with whether it works fine after latest Windows and driver updates or not..

@KrazyToad

After installing updates, audio drivers version is now 6.0.8813.1 and Windows version is 1909, Build 18363.815.

Audio playback is now fine. Performing system recovery solved my problem. Thanks
