Static background noise on brand-new HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15

HP Recommended
HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ee0167ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever I start any sound recording Software (e.g. Zoom or the Microsoft voice recorder) I barely hear my own voice, because the static noise is so overwhelmingly loud. Since I thought of driver problem I uninstalled all drivers associated with audio input and reinstalled. Furthermore I purged the AMD drivers  and reinstalled via AMD's official program as well. There seems that there was a problem in the past concerning AMD's Software being overwritten by Windows' own drivers, but that was fixed in Nov '20 (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Re-HP-Envy-x360-Ryzen-5-15-Microphone-and-speakers-cras...) - so that can't be it.

I also was curious, if it was solely a Windows problem so I activated Dual boot via Ubuntu Grub and using Ubuntu the same static noise was present all the time as well.

Because this device is brand-new I am thinking about returning it, because it seems more and more like a major hardware problem.

Do you have any solutions concerning my problem or are facing the same problem?

@ben397

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • To resolve this issue, download and install the following SoftPaq to update the audio driver from here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for answering my post here in the forum - the support from you is already more than I ever received from Lenovo (former Laptop - major problem with screen).

The SoftPaq you linked was unfortunately already installed - it was the newest version of the drivers I  suppose (also indicated via the HP Assistant program).

Since I did not have much to do any more troubleshooting than I already did, I decided to return the Laptop and I got exactly the same model and the sound of the microphones is crystal clear and the device itself is absolutely amazing.

This is not a very fulfilling answer (sorry for the impatience), but I really feel like taken cared of (I did not expect anyone to answer to that post tbh) as a customer - thank you for your time and effort!
