I have the same issue: EliteBook 860 G9. It's not limited to my Logitech C922 webcam,..it also occurs when i plug in my Yeahlink WH67 Headset. I've been messing with this for about 45 days. I have tried rolling back drivers, etc. to no avail.

On a whim, i tried an older Logitech Webcam (C310) and I'll be damned...the issue doesn't occur. I've resolved my headset by electing to use Bluetooth connectivity for now, but HP needs to resolve the driver issue.

So, if you are looking to get a webcam (camera & microphone) functioning again maybe consider snagging the Logitech above.

Same issue with a Logi 920HD, looks like the 920 & 922 do not want to work with Win11 22H2. Found another post on Reddit that talks about this as well.

I have the Camera plugged in, but I have disabled it in Device Manager (Sound, video and game controllers) This way I can still use the camera, but not the integrated mic. (You will need to restart the Windows Audio service)

I have  a client having the same issue. As soon as the camera is disconnected and we restart the audio service everything works perfectly fine again. We need a solution for this if anyone has found one yet. I am going to try installing an older Realtek audio driver today.

Did it help?

It did not. Same issue continues to occur. The user is using an older Logitech web camera and it works completely fine. As soon as we plug in the newer one the windows audio service stops and will not remain started. If you find any solutions let us know.

Hello community users!

The solution to the failure would be to access Device Manager -> Sound, Video, and Game Controllers -> then right clicking on your webcam devices’ name (EX: Logitech C920 Webcam) and choosing Disable. After a short time the audio should start working again.

Gents. I accidentaly found a solution how to enable Logitech Webcam with working Windows Audio servise
This solution was posted by Julio R. Quezada on MS Comunity server.
Thi simple solution just require to reload/reactivate Windows Audio USB driver. It is a temporary solution as it works only until you restart the Windows. Than in needs to be redone to. If you just put your computer on sleep or hibernate, then it is OK.
But at least some solution is availabe until Microsoft will fix this issue. Hope this will work your you as well. For me it works!

This would work, but the user wants to use the Webcam mic in my case. Unfortunately this is still not possible over 2 months later. It would be nice to know which update caused the issue and which device /manufacturer caused the issue to begin with and is not fixing the issue so we know which brand to never purchase again.

It's definitely Logitech C9xx webcam hardware.

not sure if there's some correlation between underlying age/firmware, etc.

The only thing that's worked for me so far to get both the camera AND microphone working is to change the driver that the webcam uses to "Generic USB Device (OEM)" from "Generic USB Device"

unfortunately this doesn't always last forever, and is often overwritten if the laptop is undocked/redocked.

I'll have a client machine on my workbench with this issue sometime within the next week or so, so I'll be able to poke at it directly without being time-crunched for bandaids.

So I finally resolved the issue on my device (HP EliteBook 860 G9) I saw a few folks had attempted Resetting their PC with a fresh Windows install with no success resolving the issue, so I deduced that this is likely not a Windows OS issue. So, I took it a step further based on this and performed the following:

1.) Created a Windows 11 Installation Media on a USB

2.) Removed the SSD  from my laptop and connected it to a spare PC I have.

3.) Wiped the entire SSD - including all Recovery & EFI System recovery partitions.

Note - Windows Disk Management isn't great at this task, so i used EaseUS Partition Master.

4.) Reinstalled the SSD back into my laptop and booted up from Windows Media Tool USB.

5.) I went through all the normal Windows setup and as soon as I was logged in, I disabled Windows Updates from installing any drivers ( I wanted to manage this manually to see if i could capture the culprit for the issue).

Link to disabling in driver updates in GPO here: https://www.minitool.com/news/enable-disable-automatic-driver-updates-windows-11.html

6.) I created a System Restore Point.

7.) I downloaded & installed the HP Driver Package for my EliteBook 860 G9 from here: (https://hpia.hpcloud.hp.com/downloads/driverpackcatalog/HP_Driverpack_Matrix_x64.html)

8.) Crossed my fingers and plugged in my Logitech C922 Camera....Success! No more Windows Audio Service issue.

9.) Next, I  installed my Yeahlink WH67 USB headset (it caused the same issue as the camera before all of this).  No issues reported and both my camera and headset worked fine.

10.) Last was putting all of this together and plugging everything into my docking station - hoping that wouldn't give me a problem now. Fortunately, no issues either.

After all of this, I've been running for 3 weeks with no issues and I have been pushing any Windows updates through.  I'm now on W11 2H23. Maybe the driver has been fixed by HP/Realtek somewhere along the way, but not sure.

Hope this helps!
