Switch to the local system account and start the service as described above.

Then switch back to the Local Service account. You must leave the password blank bevore applying..

Restart the service.

Audio works again after these actions

Hello. Thanks for the advice, but this procedure doesn't work.

Audio works only if the notebook is disconnected from the USB-C dock station. Once connected, the Windows Audio service stops working instantly.

This does not resolve the problem. Switching the Windows Audio Service to a system account restores the system's ability to detect you have hardware, and yes, they have drivers, but audio does not play. As soon as you switch it back to the SA, the service stops while connected to the dock.

Audio works fine when not connected to the dock, as soon as it connects, the Windows Audio service stops, restarting the service blips the audio but stops again. I have tried reverting drivers all the way back to December to no avail. A system reset or reimage resolves the issue however is not the solution. I've seen an HP tech in the thread here but no further updates. I think this issue should be escalated.

Hi All,

Yes, that is right, this issue is still not resolved, even after updating the firmware and drivers to the latest edition.

This is the result:

Hello. It seems that the problem is not related to USB-C dock, but it is caused by the web camera connected to the dock. In my case Logitech. When I disconnect the webcam from dock USB port the Windows Audio Service starts to work.

I connected the webam directly to my HP notebook so I can still use it and this seems to be a workaround.
If you have same/imilar setup, please try disconnecting the webcam (or maybe other USB devices) from the docking station and let us all know if it worked.

Thanks.

@Petr_Radek,

Wow, yes, you are correct!

Immediately after I disconnected the Webcam, the Windows Audio service started to run constantly hence all audio is now back to normal.

I guess it doesn't really matter which Webcam is connected to any docking station.

Mine is Logitech C922 Pro Stream 1080p Webcam + Capture Software

When I connected the Webcam directly to the laptop USB, not through the USB dock, the Windows Audio service crashed again.

Therefore, the Webcam cannot be used until HP fix the driver issue.

I had the same problem with two HP Elitebook G9 computers with different docks both having Windows 11. Problem in my case was Logitech webcam, no matter if it was connected to Dock or directly to the laptop

Yes, spot on.

which model of the Webcam?

Thank you for choosing and using HP product and services.

My config is:

HP Elitebook 830 G9

HP USB-C Dock G5

Logitech C920 PRO HD Webcam.

In my case the Windows Audio Service works when the webcam is connected to notebook. It only stops when webcam is connected to HP Dock.

I found the thread related to this topic also on Microsoft web site (without solution yet):
