Hi there @LivHere,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I understand you are having an issue with the sound. I will be glad to help you.
Please post the full product number of your computer. See the following, if you need help with that information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Here are some general steps to try.
1. Make sure your headophones are plugged into the headphone jack
2. Go to your control panel
3. Click Sound
4. Click on the Playback tab (should be default tab)
5. Click on the item Speakers / Headphones
6. In the drop down menu click on Set as Default
7. This should remove the little phone icon from the headphones and your headphones should now work
Please keep me informed of how things went.
If you require further assistance, let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help you.

Unfortunately, I have tried setting it as default about a million times. I even reinstalled the IDT Audio driver. Communication headphones seem to be there whether my headphones are plugged in or not, but when I try to test it absolutely no sound comes out. For now I'm using USB headphones which work perfectly fine.
My product number is D8X45UA#ABA

Hi @LivHere,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Per Maintenance and Service Guide page 10, NOTE: Be sure that the device cable has a 4-conductor connector that supports both audio-out (headphone) and audio-in (microphone).

Thank you.
It does in fact support both audio-out and audio-in. It has worked perfectly fine before. I don't know what made it stop working all of a sudden. I'm hoping the next Windows Update will somehow fix it, but I'm almost positive it won't.

It's been 2 weeks and I still have no idea what is wrong with this. It's getting fairly annoying to use these huge headphones. Today a wifi error occured and restarting didn't help, but I restarted the computer again and for some reason is fixed now. I have come to the conclusion that all my errors are just the cause of Windows 10, which seems to have many bugs in it. I don't know how to fix anything, and there's nothing I've been able to do.

Okay, I've seen this issue posted before so has anyone resolved it yet?
I have a brand new HP Spectre laptop running Windows 10 and sound will only come out of the lap top speakers, despite trying 4 different head phones and two sets of speakers.
I have gone into sounds (control panel) and the headphone option is selected, when they are plugged in. Still doesn't work
Do I have a defective computer?

No it hasn't been resolved unfortunately. I don't think it's your computer, but Windows 10. Since Windows 10 is seeming to have a lot of issues. The only thing that I have gotten to work is using USB headphones and muting the sounds from the speaker, and making it your default device. No headphones work at all. Even if you uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
I've gotten used to the headphones now so it's not an awfully big bother, but it's still a massive flaw. I hope you'll find a better fix to this soon.

Two months and still no answers. I guess this really is just a Windows 10 problem that is not being solved no matter how many updates they send out. I'll be getting a new computer soon hopefully but there still has been no fix. If anyone ever finds anything out about this strange problem, that no matter how many times I delete the drives and reinstall they will not work properly. The strange thing is, I tried to download Realtek drivers, which I used to have but randomly disappeared, refuses to download into my computer. It just won't show up no matter how many times I download it. I have no idea what to do and it's bothering me immensely to wear these over the ear headphones constantly.

It's been months now, and I have found absolutely no solution to this problem of mine. For some reason, plugging earphones into the only audio jack I have on my laptop makes the sound come out from the speaker instead of into the earphones. Magically, it was fixed for a total of one day. Without restarting my computer or anything, it reverted to not working again.
When I check my sounds without the earphones plugged in, there are only two options- speakers and communication headphones. I plug in the earphones and nothing else shows up. I am beyond frustrated at this point, more so the fact that I can't find a single solution online that works.
Also, when the earphones are plugged in, I am able to hear sound through both them and the speakers. There is nothing wrong with the earphones. They've worked perfectly fine on this laptop before. I've deleted the audio drivers and reinstalled.
I've attempted to install Realtek drivers, which I had at one point, but they refuse to install into my laptop! After going through the installation process, I restart my computer. When I search through my programs, it's as if I didn't even download it! Nothing shows up at all.
Is this really a Windows 10 problem? Can I really be the only one having this problem? Maybe I overlooked something important.
Any help will be helpful, thank you.
