The first post on here predates the current BIOS v1.08A dated 18th October 2017. And my first user to have trouble with the device stopping definitely predates that date so my instinct is to say that going back to v1.06A won't it.

But it is interesting that there is a recent BIOS upgrade. There is nothing in the release notes (useful link below) around sound or audio. Except there have been updates to the Intel microcontroller for Kaby & Skylake chipsets. One hasn't a clue whether there is any related SST code handled by the microcontroller.

Just wanted to add that I am having the exact same issues as you are.

I have tried uninstalling and removing the audio drivers completely  and Installing the hd audio conexant drivers from HP.

I have also noticed that I do not even have an Audio or Sound tab in Device Manager anymore. The audio drivers are just located under System devices.

Exact same thing here with a HP 850 G4

Hey all,

Stumbled across this thread while trying to fix this exact issue on an HP Elitebook 820 G4 that I deployed to a user a few weeks ago. No audio, Bang mark on the Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller.

I tried virtually everything in this thread without any luck, so I wanted to comment and let you guys know what worked for me.

THIS DRIVER: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81001-81500/sp81155.exe

It's an older version of the Conexant Audio Driver that I came across. Installed it, and sound restored!

Hmm, that's interesting - there is a security alert out on the Conexant Driver...

Well, add me to the list of "me toos". I've encountered this problem on two client laptops over the last few months - both ProBook 650G3 series and both connected to the HP UltraSlim Docking Station.

First client started having issues in September, about a month after the laptop was installed. Occassionally a reboot would fix it, however other times it would persist across several reboots (both docked and undocked) and only came back after I opened the back panel and removed the battery. That lasted about two days before it stopped working.

We sent the laptop off for HP warranty repair (I provided all my troubleshooting steps and screenshots of the Intel SST software in the "error" state). HP replaced the motherboard. Laptop worked for about a week before sound stopped. At this point, I assumed it was an OS issue and not driver-related as we had tried multiple driver versions and other troubleshooting steps to no avail. After OS reinstallation, the problem has (yet) to reoccur.

Last week, another client contacted me indicating his sound was not working. Same symptoms as other client revolving around Intel SST. Undocking and rebooting resolved it the first time. Today when it stopped working again (and persisted across reboots), disabling and re-enabling the SST device in device manager resolved it. I'm going to have him try the driver mentioned in Jorge-M's post just before mine to see if it helps.

This is definitely an annoying issue with no easy troubleshooting method or fix. It would be nice if HP could take note and properly fix it.
