Hello, I have an HP 16-D1023NT laptop. I had a BIOS password, which I removed, but a previously set admin BIOS password has reappeared. HP support in Türkiye suggested replacing the motherboard, but I don't have that much money. How can I reset the password?

Lastly, I tried resetting it using the Windows + V key combination, but it didn't work.1783373643793.jpg1783373655047.jpg

Hi,

From the photos, the first message is CMOS Reset (502), and the second one shows Authentication Failed / System Locked.

It is important to separate the two issues:

Windows + V is a CMOS reset procedure. It can reset BIOS/CMOS settings and may trigger the CMOS 502 message, but it does not remove or bypass a BIOS administrator password.

HP CMOS reset information:

HP 500/501/502 error information:

If the notebook is locked by a BIOS administrator password, there is no supported community method to remove it. HP’s official guidance for forgotten BIOS passwords is to contact HP Support, and for many models the official repair path may require system board replacement.

HP official BIOS password guidance:

I would recommend:

  1. Stop trying random key combinations, because they will not remove the BIOS password.
  2. Contact HP Support again with proof of ownership.
  3. Provide the exact product number and serial number privately to HP Support only, not publicly in the community.
  4. Ask HP whether this specific model can be unlocked by support procedure or whether motherboard replacement is the only official option.
  5. Avoid unofficial BIOS password reset files or tools, as they are not supported and may permanently damage or lock the system.

Unfortunately, if HP confirms that the BIOS administrator password cannot be reset for this model, then motherboard replacement is the official supported solution.
