Hi @aa232323
Thank you for bringing this news to me. It is new to me, as well - I am not familiar with this (if true or false).
Unfortunately, I do not work for/ I am not employed by HP , and I do not know for sure - but I will need to check internally with my HP contacts.
Please, be patient - whenever I have more information I am going to post back. Note that it may take a couple for day for a reply to come from my side.

Thank you very much. The total cost HP estimates to change motherboard is 387€. That is, replace a fully functional motherboard for another one, because they dont want to provide the specific solution they have.
There is some high technical solutions, like remove bios chip from the motherboard.. Cant belive HP is forcing their legit costumers to go that path.
I have write down a complain in HP web site, lets see how it goes..

Hello @aa232323
Thank you for your patience. You are most welcome !
I received the information that the internal policies may have changed. What HP do now is done to protect customers' privacy to limit any potential access to data (especially for remotely providing SMC.bin file), and the policy applies also for Commercial Notebooks. Therefore, the above TKB article which suggests SMC.bin file is no longer valid/true.
I am so sorry if this causes you issues or inconvenience.
- Here is the official article >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824
>> https://www8.hp.com/us/en/privacy/limited_warranty.html
Please, get in touch with the local HP Support department to see all of the options they can offer.

If this was done "to protect customers' privacy to limit any potential access to data"; why would HP be offering to resolve the issue by replacing the motherboard?
i.e. What's the difference between resetting the BIOS with the custom SMC.bin and replacing the motherboard?
