Hi @Vijay7301,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop is not retaining the boot order settings, causing it to prompt you to select the boot device each time you start the laptop. Here’s a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue.
Check Boot Order in BIOS
- Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key to enter BIOS/UEFI settings (usually Esc, F2, F10, or Del—refer to your laptop's manual if unsure).
- Navigate to the Boot menu (this could be under "Boot", "System Configuration", or similar).
- Ensure your SSD (or the drive you want to boot from) is set as the first boot device.
- Save and exit the BIOS settings.
Update BIOS/UEFI Firmware
Sometimes BIOS updates can resolve boot issues:
- Visit the HP Support website and locate the page for your laptop model.
- Download the latest BIOS update for your model.
- Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS. This usually involves running an executable file from Windows or a bootable USB drive.
Check SSD Connection
Ensure the SSD is properly connected:
- Turn off your laptop and unplug it.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Open the back panel of your laptop to access the SSD.
- Check the SSD connection to ensure it’s properly seated. Reconnect it if necessary.
Check for Hardware Issues
Sometimes hardware issues can cause boot problems:
- Run the built-in diagnostics tool (usually available in the BIOS menu or via a special key at startup, such as F2 or Esc).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to test your hardware, particularly the SSD.
Repair Boot Configuration
If the above steps don’t work, you might need to repair the boot configuration:
- Create a Windows Installation Media using another computer (USB drive with the Windows installer).
- Boot from the USB drive by selecting it from the boot menu or setting it as the first boot device in BIOS.
- Select "Repair your computer" instead of installing.
- Go to "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Command Prompt".
- Run the following commands one by one:
- bootrec /fixmbr
- bootrec /fixboot
- bootrec /scanos
- bootrec /rebuildbcd
Check for BIOS Settings
Ensure no unusual settings are enabled that might affect boot behavior:
- In BIOS, check for settings related to Secure Boot, Fast Boot, or Legacy Support.
- Disable Secure Boot and see if it resolves the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
