Hey all, I wanted to remove the BIOS password from my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 16-a0032dx. I went into the settings and hit set on the startup password and it asked for the current one, which I typed in, and then the next two lines were new password and confirm new password. I simply left those lines blank. Now, the laptop asks for a password and hitting enter while the field is blank doesn't work. Any other password I've tried including the old one says invalid password. I've tried upon research:
Holding Win+V on startup: This made it say the BIOS had an invalid checksum and reset something.
Holding Win+B on startup: This installed some kind of BIOS update (I didn't connect a USB or anything so I don't know how it did that but it did do something). This was done by suggestion of this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Bios-password-at-boot-Locked/m-p/6276162#M119...
Cracking it open and disconnecting the battery: A lot of people say to remove and replace the CMOS battery; this laptop doesn't have one of those so I just disconnected the battery, pushed the power button to drain residual power, and then plugging it back in. It then did something similar to what happened with the Win+V but still didn't fix the issue.
A few passwords people said on other forums would work: I tried some of these jumbles of numbers or letters and they didn't work, feel free to comment the ones you find if you choose to research this too in case I missed any. I did try this one to no avail: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/i-was-changing-the-bios-password-but-left-the...
Once you enter passwords a few times, it has a menu with recovery options and the only option is HP SpareKey recovery. It also says the system serial number. You can then restart it with the power button and keep trying.
This is a super stressful situation for me so I'm really hoping the solution isn't a new laptop/mobo. HP's nonexistent support network besides this forum doesn't help much. Thanks.
