Hello @ProfTim1

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

(1) The HP Notebook - 15-ay065nr Product Specification says:

Hard drive
1 TB 5400 rpm SATA

( mechanical drive )

(2) PSPE20-8G5B93-XD7X6K-60s603 on short test => DST is drive self test failed.

This means that the seekread and write operations can no longer be performed reliably due to technical errors.

Recommendation and solution

The hard disk urgently needs to be replaced ! A later access to the hard disk via a SATA-to-USB adapter is still possible. However, it cannot be guaranteed that you can access all data.

Replace with:

SAMSUNG 870 EVO SATA SSD 500GB 2.5” Internal Solid State Hard Drive

Reinstall Windows operating system using <HP Cloud Recovery> or official Windows Setup

HP warranty valid -> Contact HP Support for service repair

HP warranty expired:

If you can't do that, you should have it serviced by a professional notebook (chip level) repair store.

Thanks very much for your prompt and extensive response, even if it's bad news.

Maybe it is time for a new laptop although i am afraid of Windows 11, which seems to be all you can get.
