My PC was experiencing an issue with the HP Smart Adapter. The notification said the adapter was too small for the lapt. My adapter is the one that came with the pc. I thought I would reset the bios settings.
I followed HP's instructions for performing a Hard Reset.
These are instructions from the online HP support document:
1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.
Here is what I did:
1. No peripherals were attached.
2. I unplugged the AC Adapter from the laptop.
3. I removed the battery.
4. I pressed/held the power button down for 30 seconds to purge all power.
5. I left the battery out as directed and plugged in the power adapter.
6. I pressed the power button and allowed the PC to start to boot-up.
7. Once I saw the backlight of the screen and prior to the HP splash screen, I pressed the power button to power down.
8. I attached the battery.
9. Right away I noticed the power adapter LED on the laptop was not glowing amber or white.
10. I pressed the power button and the pc is completely dead. No black screen, the power LED doesn't light and I cannot hear the fan.
I did not hear any pops or smell electronics burning at any time. I'm not sure if hardware has failed.
Does anyone know if removing/reinstalling the CMOS button battery would clear this condition? Or does this sound like hardware has failed?

I removed the CMOS battery and let the caps drain down - overnight.
The next day, I put the laptop back together.
I installed the battery and left the AC Adapter unplugged.
I pressed the power button.
I got a message that the BIOS Settings were lost and to press Enter to accept defaults.
I pressed Enter and the laptop booted into Windows.

It looks like you have posted your issue twice on this forum. 🙂 Please, come back to delete one of the topics in order to avoid saturation of the forum. 🙂 I am posting my answer here as well.
I think that the BIOS of your laptop needs to be reset completely. Have you tried resetting it? If not, there's a hint – you could do so by pulling out the CMOS battery. I assume that the warranty of your laptop has expired. So you can make modifications on it.
The BIOS reset must be done after you have pulled out the battery and the power cord of the laptop. Open the lid and localize the CMOS battery which lies next to the processor and it looks like a watch battery. If you have another CMOS battery, you can replace it with that. If you don't, leave your current battery aside and wait for some minutes for the electricity to discharge. Then, plug the CMOS battery back in and the power cord. Try to boot your laptop again.
