This is bs. I am having the black screen issue on my new HP Omen(Windows 10.)

for an update that HP has just released, to address the symptoms.

I downloaded and applied the update above but still get the black screen after windows updates. 

 

Rolling back to a previous version of windows via system restore works and then disabling app readiness 'fixes' it but it is inconvenient as you still get reminders all the time that you need to update windows.

 

Will there be an actual fix for this?

 

It's a bit disheartening when you buy a brand new $2000 laptop and you have stuff like this plaguing your existence on this planet after less than a week of owning said laptop. Things should be nice and smooth and trouble-free.

 

I'm half-tempted to return the thing. Can't cope.

Create a Restore Point, and then run Windows (not HP) Update, reboot, and tell us the result.

None of the posts above seemed to work so I ultimately did a complete reset on the computer and all is fine.

So far, so good.

 

There is some combination of Microsoft-provided updates and HP-provided updates that seem to trigger the symptoms. 

 

Be aware of what gets updated.

Resolving the black screen issue caused by Windows 10 update

If you have previously disabled App Readiness

  1. Boot the PC
  2. Click Start and type Services
  3. Open desktop app Services and find App Readiness
  4. Open the service and set Startup type to Manual
  5. Click Apply and close the window
  6. Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
  7. Reboot PC

If you have not disabled App Readiness

  1. Boot the PC
  2. Wait 15-20 minutes for the boot process to complete and desktop to load
  3. Once on desktop, Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
  4. Reboot PC
