1. Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
2. Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
3. Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
4. Press the power button.

I have the same problem, my model is the HP pavilion g series model number g6 1306ea. It started this morning and is doing exactly as the person above. Hello sarahbirdie. I understand you're having trouble with your computer starting up.
If your notebook is having a hard drive booting into Windows it is a good idea to first to run a hardware diagnostic on the hard drive and memory. These are two very common causes of start up issues. Follow the steps in this document and make sure to post the results.
I will be keeping an eye out for these results. I hope you're having a great day!

Hi Laclede,
I understand you are having issues the num lock flashing and caps lock flashing also no cursor, blank screen, fan running. Here is a document on Hard Disk Self Test.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00439024&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en
You could also try using system restore when Windows 7 cannot start normally.

Hope this helps.
Thanks
