HP Pavilion x360 14-dh0039na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a relatively new HP pavilion x360, which periodically fails to turn on (even with the power cord connected or disconnected).

When the laptop does not wish to turn on, the on button is unresponsive, however if the power cord is plugged in - the charging light still turns on (however the on button is still not responsive).

I've tried following the virtual assistants advice by unplugging everything & by holding the power button down to hard reset the PC - however this does not fix the problem.

I wondered if it was a BIOS problem & reflashed it - however the problem persists. Currently running BIOS Insyde F.07, 03/07/2019 with secure boot on

The only solution I have come up with so far is to leave the lid closed for 5 minutes, then try to turn on the PC - this generally works, but can be annoying.

This makes me wonder if the system is unable to identify whether the laptop lid is open/closed with the magnetic sensor? Any idea's on how to prevent this?

Thanks for your help,

Jack

@JackO27 Welcome to HP Community!

Have you attempted to connect the device to an alternate power cord or adapter?

Or check with another wall outlet, excluding any surge protectors to check if it works?

While you respond to that, here's the best way to resolve the issue, using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

CLICK HERE FOR STEP BY STEP GUIDE

(simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

If the above doesn't help or the steps are insufficient, check the below steps:

Let's start with a hard reset of your notebook computer before you try any other troubleshooting steps.

Reasons for a hard reset

A hard reset has the following effects:

  • Clears the memory.

  • Reestablishes the connection between the BIOS and the hardware

The following conditions can be helped by the hard reset:

  • Windows stop responding.

  • The display suddenly goes blank.

  • The computer does not wake from sleep or hibernate modes.

  • Software applications freeze or fail to respond.

Hi @Riddle_Deciphor,

I haven't tried different cables, as the battery is definately charging with the current one. Sometimes the laptop will not boot (doesn't matter whether the power cord is plugged in or not). However, 3 times out of 10 it doesn't boot - the only solution is just to close the lid on the laptop for 5 minutes, then it will boot normally.

When it won't boot, I have attempted a hard reset, as per the virtual agents guidance, however the laptop is still unresponsive when you preform it.

Thanks for your help,

Jack

@JackO27 I'm afraid that could be mean that this is a hardware malfunction, and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
