HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg2000 (4U8D7AV)

My laptop turns itself off and will not turn back on unless it is connected to power, the battery is at 100% even when it shuts down so surely not a battery related issue?? when it turns back on it demands a restart, then after it restarts again. when consistently connected to power and is running there does not seem to be an issue, any help would be great, i have tried looking on HP support but nothing really seems to fit the issue that I am facing and the support lines are only open monday-friday, thanks !!!

Hi @ruby_15 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion laptop is experiencing issues with sudden shutdowns and requires a restart, there could be various factors contributing to this problem. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check for Overheating: Overheating is a common cause of unexpected shutdowns. Ensure that the laptop's vents are not blocked, and use compressed air to clean any dust accumulation. You can also consider using a laptop cooling pad to improve airflow.

Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up-to-date. Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your laptop model.

Power Settings: Check your power settings to make sure there are no settings causing the laptop to shut down unexpectedly. Adjust the power plan settings and see if the issue persists.

BIOS Update: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when updating the BIOS.

Battery Calibration: Even though the battery shows 100%, it's still worth calibrating it. Discharge the battery completely, then fully charge it while the laptop is turned off. This can help recalibrate the battery sensor.

Run System Diagnostics: Most laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools. Run a thorough system diagnostic test to check for hardware issues. You can usually access these tools during the boot-up process by pressing a specific key (often Esc, F2, or F12).

Check for Software Issues: Unwanted software or malware could be causing the shutdowns. Run a full system scan using your installed antivirus software. Also, check for any recently installed programs that may be causing conflicts.

Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, system updates can address compatibility issues and improve stability.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
